Diversity and inclusion

We are committed to attracting and developing diverse talent.

At Aramco, we aim to nurture a workplace culture that values the contributions of all employees, creating an environment where individuals can excel as a part of inclusive, collaborative teams.

What is diversity and inclusion at Aramco?

Diversity and inclusion (D&I) in general refers to the steps organizations can take — via policies, programs, and company culture — towards creating an inclusive work environment that encourages the representation and involvement of diverse groups of people as part of an inclusive, productive, and aspiring workforce.

At Aramco it’s the steps we take every day toward cultivating an environment where everyone, regardless of ability, age, gender, culture, nationality, personality, or background, feels welcomed and respected. It’s also being an employer that values and appreciates every employee and helps enable them to achieve their professional potential.

How does Aramco promote D&I?

We are committed to attracting and developing diverse talent, seeing individual differences as an opportunity for innovation and growth. We cultivate a supportive environment where employees are provided equitable access to resources and opportunities.

Our diversity and inclusion programs

Awareness of how our employees can contribute to help make Aramco a more inclusive company is vital. This is why our employees participate in a range of specially-developed and regularly-updated online courses and in-person workshops designed to provide a cross-company introduction to, and reinforcement of, key diversity and inclusion concepts, enhance understanding, and empower our leaders with the knowledge, skills, and behaviors they’ll need to help build and support their teams and promote Aramco’s continued success.

Our employees work in diverse teams, varying in gender, ability, age, and background.

A diverse and inclusive company for all

The dedicated D&I team at Aramco builds on our tradition of celebrating, engaging, and enabling our workforce, supporting the wider strategy to create a vibrant and inclusive company culture for employees in five key areas: Recruitment, Retention, Advancement, Leadership, and in becoming a Role Model for D&I in the Kingdom and beyond.

D&I initiatives are implemented across all Company workstreams and embedded within the entire employee life-cycle —  from hire to retire — across all levels of responsibility.

While we target our current programs around people with disabilities, gender, age, and culture, we are always working to improve our processes, working environments, and facilities for all employees so that Aramco is a dynamic and fulfilling place to work. Above all, we recognize the importance of valuing each employee’s distinct abilities and specific contributions.

Supporting women in STEM

Globally, women are underrepresented in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and the energy industry as a whole.

To help address this underrepresentation, we partner with local universities in Saudi Arabia to leverage their engineering programs, identifying highly-qualified female candidates for opportunities within Aramco. This collaboration has resulted in a dramatic increase in the number of women scientists and engineers in our organization since the early 2000s, which has been accompanied by the generation of hundreds of female-led patents.

This achievement, alongside a number of other cross-discipline initiatives, has resulted in year-on-year growth in both the percentage of women in our workforce and in leadership positions over the past five years, with female representation in senior positions more than doubling since 2019. This progress has been supported by the allocation of additional seats in talent assessments and targeted leadership programs in Ivy League schools like Harvard and Wharton, and global education institutions like LSE (the London School of Economics and Political Science) and INSEAD  Business School (Institut Européen d'Administration des Affaires).

We are proud that our female employees include scientists, inventors, traders, pilots, and fire safety inspectors, among other critical roles.

Disability inclusion

Our Disability Inclusion Program provides support and aims to enhance accessibility across built, digital, and learning environments, as well as in our employment and onboarding services, and throughout our organizational culture, for employees with disabilities.

For example, as of 2023, the Company offers a reduced work schedule, for a span of up to 2 years, for people with disabilities, in order to promote greater work-life balance. This addition joined other targeted benefits for employees with disabilities including a daily transportation allowance and an assistance program to reimburse an employee’s costs associated with supporting a disabled child dependent.

In 2021, Aramco became a member of The Valuable 500, a global business partnership of 500 companies working together to end disability exclusion. Membership in organizations like this helps facilitate easy access to wider knowledge and best practices.
